Basic Function

Supervise students, teach technical theatre labs in lighting and sound, potentially design MainStage shows.

Representative Duties

Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate. E

Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours. E

Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, and university mission/goals; implement the student performance objectives as listed on the official course outline of record. E

Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, and student learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports related to course and student progress in a timely manner. E

Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with discipline faculty; order instructional materials according to campus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery. E

Performs related duties as assigned.

All aspects of technical theatre.

Ability To

Work with students in a theatre production and operate technical theatre equipment/ tools

Minimum Qualifications

3 years experience in advanced educational and/or professional theatre required. A Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or design is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

MFA desired.

Physical Abilities

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; speaking to exchange information, provide instruction and make presentations; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; pushing, pulling or lifting light objects; bending and reaching to store and/or retrieve files.

Working Environment

Indoor classroom environment; subject to visiting a variety of classroom sites on campus.

California Lutheran University seeks a part-time staff member to begin January 2018, as the Lighting and Sound Designer/Engineer for a Theatre Arts program. Responsibilities include: mentorship of student employees; supervising student crews; teaching labs in Lighting and Sound Design; and Potential Lighting and Sound design for the main-stage season.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in lighting design, sound design, and production. This will include a working knowledge of QLab, Vectorworks, Lightwright, and ETC lighting systems/consoles. Candidates must have the ability to work autonomously or collaboratively on multiple projects simultaneously. A Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or design is preferred.
